The original architecture has been considerably altered by major works carried out by the various residents who have prospered here. <\/p><p>In the 16th century, the castle was gradually demolished and the stone used to build farmers&#8217; and shepherds&#8217; houses at the foot of the hill.<\/p><p>When can you visit? All year round, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., 7 days a week. <\/p><p>Free admission.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"columns\"><div class=\"columns__item\" style=\"align-self:center;\"><h2>Fort Saint-Agathe, Porquerolles, 7 km from the campsite<\/h2><p><strong>Fort St Agath<\/strong> was originally built to protect the islanders from barbarian invasion.
