During this time of sharing and joy, we invite you to experience a <strong>typical Provencal Christmas<\/strong>. Do you know <strong>the traditions<\/strong> that punctuate this magical time of year? Join us in preparing for the festive season. Turn your dreams into reality!    <\/p><p>In Provence, the <strong>calendar<\/strong> period is punctuated by different traditions. It begins on <strong>Saint Barbara&#8217;s<\/strong> Day (December 4), <strong> <\/strong>we plant wheat to decorate the Christmas table. If the stalks are straight and green, the year will be prosperous. <\/p><p><strong>Nativity scenes<\/strong> are set up in homes on Christmas Eve and remain there until Candlemas. Santon craftsmen showcase their skills at the markets of Provence. Each &#8220;santoun&#8221;, made of clay, represents a craft or a village resident.  <\/p><p><strong>Christmas markets <\/strong>are springing up all over town. You&#8217;ll find crafts, decorations and gift ideas in a warm, friendly atmosphere. You&#8217;ll also find gourmet food to prepare your meal.  <\/p><\/div><\/div><h3><strong>Christmas dinner<\/strong><\/h3><p>The <strong>big supper<\/strong> is served on Christmas Eve before<strong> Midnight Mass<\/strong>.<\/p><p>The Proven\u00e7als turned the mass into a real cultural feast: Proven\u00e7al songs, galoubets, tambourines, folk groups, living nativity scenes&#8230;  <\/p><p>While the &#8220;big supper&#8221; is made up of 7 lean dishes, the same can&#8217;t be said for dessert! <strong>13 desserts<\/strong> are traditionally served after mass:  <\/p><ul><li>4 beggars (dried figs, almonds, raisins and walnuts)\n<\/li><li>dates\n<\/li><li>nougats\n<\/li><li>an oil pump\n<\/li><li>quince paste or candied fruit\n<\/li><li>earpieces\n<\/li><li>fresh fruit (mandarins, oranges, pears, etc.)\n<\/li><\/ul><p>And finally, on December 25th, the children are delighted to find the tree filled with beautiful gifts &#8211; Santa Claus has indeed come!<\/p><div class=\"columns\"><div class=\"columns__item\" style=\"align-self:center;\"><h2><strong>We look forward to seeing you in Hy\u00e8res<\/strong><\/h2><p>Every year, the town of Hy\u00e8res organizes a number of events. Chalets are set up in the Place Cl\u00e9menceau for all your shopping needs. The scent of cinnamon and mulled wine will tantalize your nostrils.
