Pic des Fées observatory

On June 13, 1977, the company was granted approval n°83/196 by the Secrétariat à la Jeunesse et aux Sports to operate as a “société d’éducation populaire”.

In 1983, SAHA leased the land at Pic des Fées from the French Navy. Since then, its members have devoted thousands of hours of their free time to transforming this wasteland and its blockhouses into an amateur observatory.

The observatory

Today, the observatory boasts an extensive infrastructure (lecture hall, amphitheater, library, mechanical workshop and photo lab), as well as a full range of astronomical equipment (150 to 500 mm telescopes, CCD cameras, flat field, Halpha filter), all in a remarkable setting.

In January 2000, SAHA changed its name to Observatoire du Pic des Fées (OPF). Since 1983, the observatory has been located at the summit of Pic des Fées on land leased by the association from the French Navy.

As for the environment, it’s absolutely superb, with views over the Giens peninsula and the island of Porquerolles.
