Tourism on the Giens peninsula

Discover Hyères and the Giens peninsula

Welcome to the Presqu’île de Giens, home of the Iles d’Or campsite in Hyères, a unique, unspoilt and wild place. For the uninitiated, there’s no sight more singular than a salty land stretching between sky and sea, its horizontality broken only by the presence of pine forests and hamlets. It’s a place where forested areas rub shoulders with creeks and turquoise waters. Its exceptional setting makes for an idyllic vacation for couples, families or friends.

Visit the Giens peninsula

You can reach the Presqu’île de Giens by car, bus, plane or train. Considered a geological curiosity unique in the world, this island is linked to the mainland by 2 5 km-long sandbanks called tombolos. The tombolos surround the Pesquiers salt marshes, home to a remarkable ornithological reserve with its pink flamingos.

Discover the Presqu’île by bike. Hiking enthusiasts can follow kilometers of coastline, including the coastal path that circles the island. Your effort will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the small islands and coves. To the east, an easier trail links Tour Fondue to Badine, offering breathtaking views of Toulon harbor. To the west, a more physically demanding trail takes you from La Madrague to the Niel marina, offering successive views of Porquerolles, the smaller islands and the peninsula.

Among the best-known sites are theislet of La Gabinière, the Pointes du Vallon and de la Croix on the south coast of Port-Cros, and the wrecks of the Donator and Le Grec in Porquerolles. These are all great places to explore the seabed of the Presqu’île.

Where to swim on the Presqu’île de Giens?

During your stay on the Giens peninsula, enjoy the pleasures of the sea. There are plenty of beaches for all kinds of water sports.

  • The 5 km-long Almanarre beach is located on the western tombolo. The sand is white and the water very shallow, so your children will be able to swim in it. When the wind blows from the west, the area is teeming with windsurfers and kitesurfers.
  • La Bergerie and La Badine are beaches that stretch along the eastern tombolo. They are sheltered from the wind when the mistral blows.
  • Calanque Four à Chaux, Le Pradeau, La Darboussière and the wild creeks are the places to go for a quiet, relaxing swim near La Madrague, La Tour Fondue or along the coastal path away from the hustle and bustle of the coastline.
  • La Vignette and La Bergerie offer bathing adapted for people with reduced mobility or vision. A pontoon allows you to get into the water… everything has been designed for safe swimming.
