Hyères

Hyères can also be visited in winter, thanks to its many sites, all steeped in history. You’ll find plenty of hiking opportunities, as well as a wealth of Hyères culture. The historic center awaits you. Discover the town’smedieval history and magnificent culture.

The Villa Noailles

Architect Robert Mallet-Stevens built this magnificent masterpiece from 1923 to 1925. He was later helped by local architect Léon David to extend the building until 1933. This architectural beauty was commissioned by the Viscount de Noailles and his wife, who never ceased to expand it. Today, it boasts 60 rooms, as well as a private swimming pool, squash court and gymnasium.

The villa backs onto the hill of the old château and offers two magnificent gardens. The first, a large Mediterranean garden, was planted by the viscount himself. The second, a cubist garden, was planted in 1925.

In 1973, the town of Hyères acquired this jewel and listed it as a historic monument in 1975. Unfortunately, it was abandoned for many years.

It was sold to the municipality in 1973 and listed as a historic monument in 1975. Restoration began in 1987. In 1996, it became a center for art and architecture.
