Spotlight on three unusual walks in the Var region

La Chartreuse de la Verne

The splendid Chartreuse de la Verne and Collobrières, an authentic Provencal village nestled in the middle of the forest, are just a 1h20 drive from the campsite. A cultural, natural and gastronomic journey awaits you!

Leaving Grimaud, follow a particularly winding road for around 45 min through the woods to the magnificent Chartreuse. It’s a beautiful road, but with lots of twists and turns…. sensitive souls be warned! On the other hand, the scenery is absolutely charming. On this route, you can admire the beauty of the vast wooded hills that retain their green color all year round.

You’ll have to drive another 700 m through a forest of oak and chestnut trees to reach the Chartreuse after parking your car. The gap between the trees offers the best view of the entire religious edifice. This is when you realize its impressive size.

Le Dolmen de Gaoutabry, 35 min by car

The Gaoutabry Dolmen in La Londe les Maures is a southern megalithic site listed as a Historical Monument.

This collective tomb of at least 34 individuals makes it the largest dolmen in the Var. Discover this unique site on a 7.2 km loop trail near La Londe-les-Maures. Along the way, you’ll be able to admire wild flowers and the splendid landscapes of the Var. The trail is mainly used for hiking, but also for running. Dogs are welcome all year round!

Bargème, the highest village in the Var

Just 1h55 from the campsite, Bargème is the highest village in the Var! At a height of 1,097 m, it is one of France’s most beautiful villages. Here you can appreciate its medieval heritage, including the feudal Château Sabran-de-Pontevès, from which you can enjoy a superb panoramic view.

Bargème is a charming stone village full of character, and a must-see! Take a stroll through the village streets and discover its rich heritage.

What to see in Bargème

During your visit, discover the medieval remains for which the village is famous. The two must-see sites in Bargème are the feudal castle and the Romanesque church of Saint Nicolas.

We discovered that this château has been mentioned since 1225. It was largely destroyed during the Wars of Religion. However, the silhouette of the building is still visible, and the defensive elements are well preserved today.

The Romanesque church of Saint-Nicolas stands at the top of the village. Listed as a historic monument, it has recently been restored to its original condition.
