Autumn on the Presqu’île de Giens
Summer is drawing to a close, giving way to autumn. So you think that the days of discovering the Hyeres basin are over and that you’ll have to hibernate? Not at all!
In the south, the season remains mild and pleasant for certain activities, and there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re a hiker, a board sports enthusiast or a seabed enthusiast, the Presqu’île de Giens will amaze you with its breathtaking flora and fauna.
A breath of fresh air with the coastal path hike
Autumn means fewer people. Hiking enthusiasts will love the coastal path, rich in small coves and beaches. You’ll be able to spot several small islands such as Ile de la Redonne and Ile Longue. But what will amaze you most is the purity of the water and the beauty of nature.
This hike is a loop starting from La Madrague. Head for Pointe des Chevaliers, the easternmost point of the peninsula, passing Pain de Sucre to Port du Niel. The views are breathtaking, and you’ll be able to recharge your batteries in a bucolic landscape not far from the city.
You won’t be disturbed by the crowds of tourists, and you’ll be able to enjoy an almost untouched landscape.

Any sliding fans out there?
Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or not, there are many different kinds of water sports to choose from. Rent a paddle or a kayak to enjoy the coastline. Seabed lovers can venture out diving with Divin’Giensdiving school.
And for the more sporty among you, try your hand at kite-surfing or windsurfing – thrills guaranteed with theSpinout sailing school! L’Almanarre is the place to be for board sports. Alternatively, you can relax on the beach and admire the technical prowess of the surfers, or simply admire the pink flamingos, the inhabitants of l’Almanarre, while enjoying a delicious picnic.
You’ll be able to make the most of the stretches of sand, which are much less frequented at this time of year. However, don’t be fooled by the milder temperatures at this time of year: the sun heats up nicely in the middle of the day, and beware of unexpected sunburns!
La Tour fondue opens the doors to the Îles d’Or
Owned by the Parc National de Port-Cros since 1991, the Tour Fondue, also known as the Pradeau battery, is the departure point for the Îles d’Or. Porquerolles is the best known.
It’s a listed site, also part of the Port-Cros National Park. For hiking and swimming enthusiasts, this is the island for you! Several trails have been laid out for walking and cycling. It’s a great way to discover the island in a different, less crowded way during the autumn season.
The turquoise waters are a dream to behold, and the milder-than-summer temperatures are sure to make your day.
