The Presqu’île de Giens in Winter

In winter, the Presqu’île de Giens regains its wild air and calm.

Temperatures may be cold, but when the sun warms the coastline with its rays, a walk is a must to appreciate all the beauty of Hyeres this season. All you need is the right equipment for the activity you’re planning.

Swim

It’s a common misconception that it’s too cold to dive in the middle of winter. But did you know that it’s actually warmer in the sea than outside? The temperature in the Mediterranean is around 14°C, which is higher than on the coast, especially when the Mistral is blowing.

Did you also know that cold water is excellent for blood circulation? Some clever kids have figured it out. Despite the winter season, you’ll find them swimming a few lengths. Admittedly, you have to be brave, but the benefits are clinically proven.

Paddleboarding

Have you heard of stand-up paddling? You’d think standing on a board would be easy. But it requires a certain amount of balance. A surfboard and an oar, and off you go! Paddle along the coast and enjoy the peace and quiet.

You can enjoy the sea undisturbed by swimmers, other paddlers and even boats. Wear a wetsuit to avoid thermal shock.

This fun activity puts you in a contemplative state, and you’ll be soothed to have been able to enjoy nature. Why not try this activity during a sunrise or sunset?

Visit the island of Porquerolles

There’s no need to elbow your way through the holiday crowd to enjoy what this island has to offer. This island returned to its raw state will delight you in many ways. The empty paths are ideal for cycling or walking.

Despite the winter season, you’ll also find two boutiques open. Head for Notre-Dame beach and its stretches of white sand. As you stroll along, you’ll discover coves hidden in the rock faces.

To the south of the island are fields of laurel and the crops of the botanical conservatory. Your bike will be of no use to you in this part of the island, as wild nature has reclaimed its rightful place and the paths are for walkers only. Did you know that Porquerolles is part of the Port-Cros National Park?
