La route de la Bière: discover 3 beers from the Var!

Everyone has heard of Oktoberfest, the beer festival that takes place in Munich over almost a fortnight.
What’s less well known is the existence in France of a veritable beer route, from the island of Porquerolles to Toulon in the Var. Little by little, brewery tourism is developing… and beer is flowing like water. Find out more about these three craft beers brewed in the Var in this article, and sample them from one of our Var campsites.
Moonshiners, the beer of Giens
Our journey begins in Giens, near the campsite.
Discover “made-to-order” beer from Moonshiners Kraft Brewery in Giens. The beers on offer are between 4 and 7°c:
- white beer: light, thirst-quenching beer with fresh citrus notes
- lager: a beer with character and for tasting
- amber beer: dark color, malty, smoky and caramelized

La Porquerollaise, the Porquerolles beer
Next, we take the boat to the island of Porquerolles, which since 2016 has had its own beer. Hypaea is a blond beer produced by La Brasserie Porquerollaise.
It comes in four varieties: Hypaea blonde, Hypaea amber, Hypaea white and Hypaea IPA. And the beer is truly local!
In fact, the hops are partly grown on the island, and the wild herbs are collected there. Fresh and light, Hypaea promises to be a good introduction to this beer road.
Bière des Îles d’Or, the beer of Hyères
Back in Hyères, we’re on our way to Bière des Îles d’Or. The brewery opened in 2015, and now markets seven beers, from the lightest to Antigel (6.5) and most recently a beer with a bitter orange note.
The beers are more international (French-Belgian malt, French, German or American hops) but less distinctive, with a customer base that is growing as fast as the family business.

La Bière de la Rade, beer made in Toulon
Let’s end our beer tour in Toulon itself, at Brasseur du Sud, home of the first 100% Toulon beer!
There are now seven varieties, between 4 and 5.5 degrees, all made in the Saint-Jean-du-Var district:
- Censored – blonde
- La Daurade – white
- La Murène – stout
- La Rascasse – American amber ale
- La Barrac’ – IPA
- La Torpille – IPA session.
- L’Amer à boire – summer ale La Bière de la Rade, offers you the chance to drink on the premises, enjoy aperitif concerts and aperitif meetings, visit the facilities and make your own beer!
